ARMANI HOTEL MILANO

The new Armani Hotel Milano is the second hotel to be launched within the Armani Hotels & Resorts project and marks the continued collaboration with Emaar Properties PJSC. Following the success of the Armani Hotel Dubai, located in Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, the Armani Hotel Milano opened in the heart of the city, within the extraordinary palazzo at Via Manzoni 31, originally designed by Enrico A. Griffini and completed in 1937 in the rationalist style of the time.

Inside this building with its austere and powerful exterior, Giorgio Armani has created a world of harmony and privacy, with uncompromising attention to the requirements of guests. Here luxury, calm and beauty are fostered in pure Armani style, imparting a new aesthetic excellence to the concept of comfort. “I have concentrated all my efforts on delivering my personal aesthetic vision within a precisely defined ambience of total comfort,” explains the designer.

A key element of this approach is the decision to give every room a small vestibule that creates an intervening space before the intimacy of the bedroom is revealed. The 95 rooms and suites offer a variety of options: from Armani Deluxe Rooms (up to 45 square metres) to Armani Signature and Armani Presidential Suites, ranging from 170 to 200 square metres, on two levels connected by a magnificent stairway that makes a striking architectural impact. Minibars, high-tech amenities, cupboards that vanish into the walls – referencing the passion for order and sense of space pursued by Giorgio Armani over many years in his own homes – create an atmosphere of warmth and restraint within a commodious setting.  

Each bathroom, structured for use by two people, features the very finest fittings, including a shower enclosure in discreet one-way glass that allows a view out from inside the shower cubicle, but no view in the other way. The floors and walls in natural nuances of creamy brown are clad in Silk Georgette, a smooth limestone from Asia. All the furnishings in the hotel share the Armani/Casa collection signature design philosophy but have been specifically devised in a range of precious finishes to reflect the period mood of the palazzo: from the elegant linear sofas covered in sophisticated fabrics, to the backlit wooden bed heads.

The Armani Hotel experience is epitomized by a unique concept of service delivered by the Lifestyle Department. Lifestyle Managers are the point of contact for guests, whose every need and wish will be fulfilled with discreet assistance at all times. Guests will be looked after from the moment they make a reservation, with personal care that facilitates every requirement and responds to every need. As soon as guests arrive in the lobby looking out on Via Manzoni, their Lifestyle Manager will be on hand to welcome them and take them to the seventh floor.

All the public areas are concentrated on the seventh and eighth floors in the so-called glass “hat”, which affords a spectacular and unexpected panorama encompassing the city, from the historic Duomo to the latest skyscrapers. The Armani/Ristorante is located on the seventh floor, where it offers superb traditional Italian gastronomy, an exclusive wine list, a private dining room and a Chef’s Table within the kitchen itself. On the opposite side, the Armani/Lounge with the Armani/bamboo bar looks out over the skyline: the double height ceiling, the wall with its huge window softened by louvered blinds and sections in backlit onyx and a good choice of music ensure a relaxed ambience in which to enjoy an informal meal, afternoon tea, or an aperitivo before dinner. An internal connecting bridgeway offers a dedicated area for smokers.  

The eighth floor, covering an area of 1,200 square meters, is entirely devoted to beauty and relaxation, bringing together a range of treatments and therapies that promote physical and mental harmony and wellbeing. The Armani/SPA consists of six dedicated treatment rooms, a Couples Suite – for the inseparable – a fitness gym and a pool designed for relaxation with a temperature control system for maximum comfort.  The sunscreen walls that filter out the bright light and the roof with its magnificent view across the skyline establish a slightly surreal mood. The gym also offers a wide choice of equipment for cardiovascular and muscular training, and is open 24 hours a day.

Also available around the clock is the Armani/Business Center, which extends over 200 square meters with a private conference room and two boardrooms. As well as audiovisual equipment, IT resources, conference facilities and remote-controlled lighting, there is a separate kitchen here, ready to provide immediate service on request. The Armani Hotel Milano has been planned to satisfy the needs of work, relaxation and pleasure, conforming to that ideal combination of elegance and simplicity that defines the Armani style.  “Stay with Armani” is not merely a slogan, but an expression of the hotel’s fundamental philosophy.

Interestingly, this Armani hotel, created within a palazzo, is shaped by the architectural ground plan as an immense “A”. This can be seen in the original Griffini drawings, and is something that is only visible from above. Perhaps it was destined to be on this site!

Corinthia Hotels Announces the Re-Launch of its Luxury Hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia

Corinthia Hotels announced the re-launch of its refurbished and extended 400-bedroom luxury hotel on Nevskij Prospect in St Petersburg, Russia, having more bedrooms and more facilities under one roof than any other luxury hotel in the City.
Her Excellency the Governor of St Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, officially inaugurated the new hotel at a grand opening ceremony on Monday May, 25. His Excellency Professor Guido de Marco, President Emeritus of Malta, Mr Alfred Pisani, Founder and Chairman of Corinthia Hotels and Mr Vadim Tulpanov, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg, also presided over the grand ceremony, at which several dignitaries from Russia and overseas attended.

The Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel was acquired as an operating hotel in 2002 by International Hotel Investments (IHI) plc, a Malta-based hotel investment, development and management company, which owns and manages Corinthia Hotels worldwide. At the time, IHI also acquired the vacant grand properties on either side of the Hotel on the city’s main boulevard. Over the past two years, IHI has invested a further Euro 100 million (approx $140 million), including the total refurbishment of the original Hotel, complete with a brand new and larger, grand foyer and a new restaurant and new bars. The adjoining buildings on either side of the hotel, which had been acquired in a state of serious disrepair, were demolished and carefully reconstructed with ornate facades matching their original splendour and rebuilt using traditional techniques.

One of the adjoining properties at Nevskij 59 now houses the executive wing of the Corinthia Hotel, featuring 107 executive suites and bedrooms along with a 250-square-metre Presidential Suite and an executive lounge, bringing the hotel’s total inventory to almost 400 rooms. The centrepiece of this extension is the Grand Ballroom, seating close to 600 persons, which is the largest meeting space of its kind in any five-star hotel in the city of St Petersburg. The ballroom is further supported by a suite of 14 executive meeting rooms. Over 1,200 guests can be accommodated at any one time in the conference facilities. The other adjoining property, at Nevskij 55 now houses a stand-alone retail mall and commercial center, which will be officially inaugurated later this year.

In her address to the guests attending the Grand Opening, Governor Matvienko welcomed this major investment into St Petersburg as a further sign of confidence in the continued growth and prosperity of the city of St Petersburg. President Emeritus de Marco welcomed this project as a sign of the strong and excellent relations existing between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Malta.

Mr Pisani, in his address, told the gathering that Corinthia Hotels is committed to the long-term future of the city of St Petersburg, and is proud to have played an important part in providing the necessary hotel infrastructure, at the luxury level, to attract increasing numbers of visitors to the city. In particular, the international meetings and conference market will benefit from the availability of the extensive facilities now available at the Corinthia Hotel.

CHI Hotels & Resorts to Operate Twin Property 'Corinthia Beach Resort' in Sharmel Sheikh Egypt

Malta based CHI Hotels & Resorts (formerly Corinthia Hotels International) announced the signing of a long term management agreement with Cyrene Tourism Investment Corporation of Egypt for the operation of two new upscale properties in the highly popular Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh. Hyatt Regency Denver Implements Innovative Environmental Sustainability Efforts with Help from Staff and Guests -- Seeking to Become Colorado’s First Hotel with Green Seal Certification

Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center has started to implement a comprehensive sustainability program designed to minimize the hotel’s overall carbon footprint and decrease its environmental impact. Global Hyatt Corporation is committed to environmental responsibility, and Hyatt Regency Denver (Hyatt) strives to lead the way with sustainable environmental initiatives that will have a long-lasting impact on the community.  

Hyatt’s program focuses on water savings, energy savings, waste reduction/recycling, and staff environmental education. These areas of emphasis mark Hyatt’s commitment to genuine stewardship and shared responsibility, and support Global Hyatt’s environmental efforts being implemented around the world:

Water Conservation

Designed with guestroom low flow pluming fixtures including toilets (1.4 gallon tanks), faucets (rated 1.5 gallons per minute), and showerheads (rated 2.5 gallons per minute);

Converted automatic hand sinks and urinals in public restrooms to low flow units;

Implemented a climate-appropriate landscape design with a water efficient irrigation system; Established policy that housekeeping only changes bed linens at the request of the customer and when rooms are newly occupied;

and serve water by request only in banquets. 

In 2007, the hotel had an annual consumption of 45 million gallons of water, and without these implemented features, would likely have seen an increase of 10 percent of the annual water consumption.

Reducing the Carbon Footprint

Installed a hydronic plate cooling system that utilizes outside air to cool the hotel when temperature variations allow;
Converted 95 percent of the hotel’s light bulbs to energy saving fluorescent bulbs;
Reclamation of heat from laundry waste water to preheat incoming cold water; and
Whenever possible, chefs use locally grown produce. 

Based on the use of compact florescent as opposed to incandescent light bulbs in the 1,100 guestrooms, the hotel has realized a savings of 1,171,207.62 Kwh per year, which reflects a 6.5% savings in annual consumption. 

Reducing Landfill Waste and Recycling

Placed newspaper racks on each guest floor as opposed to individual room delivery;
First hotel in Denver to use a Waste Management single stream recycling compactor;
Placed recycling bins in all guest rooms (1,100), and placed tandem trash/recycling bins with informational signage in all public areas;
Implemented a recycling program and tandem trash/recycling bins for staff and restaurant; and
Converted “to-go” containers to biodegradable containers. 

As a result, Hyatt has reduced an estimated 25 percent of its landfill waste, and continues to monitor its business practices for avenues for additional waste reduction methods. 

Staff Education
Additionally, Hyatt has invested resources into creating a culture of environmental awareness and education of its staff by creating an active Green Committee of employees from various operations and executive departments. The committee of individuals serve as environmental ambassadors providing leadership, driving change, and increasing awareness on multiple environmental issues within the workplace and beyond. Not only does the Hyatt Green Committee develop and implement change initiatives at work, but each member looks for ways to educate fellow associates. For example, in celebration of Earth Week 2008, the committee provided fluorescent light bulbs and environmental educational information to employees for their use at home. Hyatt has also hosted internal meetings specifically to educate staff on the hotel’s sustainability efforts; brought in industry experts, such as Waste Management, for internal trainings; and provided environmental, educational and technical materials in several languages such as Spanish and Russian.

Hyatt has already seen positive results from all of its initiatives, and plans to apply for a “Green Seal Certification” by the end of 2008. Green Seal is a national non-profit that has developed “science-based environmental certification standards that are credible, transparent, and essential in an increasingly educated and competitive marketplace.” If successful, Hyatt is on track to becoming the first Green Seal certified hotel in Colorado.

Grand Hyatt Denver Launches $3.9 Million Suite Renovation

The general manager of the award-winning Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown, Ed Bucholtz, announced a $3.9 million renovation of the hotel's premier suites plus the Grand Club. More than $350,000 will go into updating each three-room unit, the largest measuring close to 800 square feet, promising that they will be like none-other in the Mile High City. The over-the-top design includes millwork with custom crown molding and rich, warm woodwork, complemented with punches of bright color.

The timeless, classic residential feel carries into the bath that features television sets embedded in the mirrors, vessel sinks set atop a cantilevered vanity and ceramic tile walls surrounding a free-standing bath tub. Glass graces the upper portion of the walls that separate this space from the sleeping area. These suites embrace the great room concept that is so prevalent in home design today and, in keeping with the latest trend, are void of a formal dining area. With all singularly appointed, a custom color palette has been created for each. Accents of fresh, natural greens and blues to striking oranges and golds play off of deep brown and tan walnut case pieces and genuine leather furnishings. The large, built-in LCD television set is easily viewed from anywhere in the room incorporating elements reminiscent of home that are not generally found in hotel accommodations. Parlor entryways are granite-touched, as are the kitchenettes, which are offset by deep-toned cabinetry.

Green Design Elements

Certainly, today's societal concern for the environment is carefully considered. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts has announced its new digital download music pilot program, in partnership with leading digital music agency Audiosuite, at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch and Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa located between Austin and Bastrop, Texas.

Individual properties will offer unique, destination-specific music collections, making Hyatt’s program truly a first in the industry. Each property’s signature collections will be available online for users to download in a universally compatible MP3 format – the most widely utilized digital music format – so guests can bring their Hyatt experience home.

Hyatt plans to roll out the new digital download program to its properties across North America and the Caribbean throughout 2007. Both Hyatt’s Scottsdale and Lost Pines resorts now feature music on property that celebrates the respective destination as well as showcases international and local artists. The study, commissioned by Hyatt, shows that more than 90 percent of traveling respondents surveyed said their work time overlaps with their personal time, leading to a blended lifestyle trend. However, only 10 percent of traveling respondents were able to find a hotel that gives them what they want.

Guests staying at select Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in North America can check their luggage and receive airline issued boarding passes before leaving the property for the airport. The cost of the service is $10 per person and includes storage, transportation and check-in of up to two pieces of luggage. The service is made available through Hyatt’s partnership with Baggage Airline Guest Services (B.A.G.S.), and is supervised by the Transportation Security Administration. Depending. Depending on location, guests can check their luggage at the hotel up to two hours prior to flight time or as long as 24 hours before departure. Once check-in is complete at a Hyatt property, guests can head to meetings or the airport free of luggage, picking it up at baggage claim in their final destination. Hyatt’s B.A.G.S. service processes the luggage through airport security screening.The service is available with travel on Airtran, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Song, Ted, and United Airlines.

A large, joyful water color of stylized flowers is immediately in full view upon entering the lobby. Across from this is the popular hotel bar which also backs up to the covered swimming pool and a large outside teak deck with lounges and a fully equipped gym beyond. The cozy and warm Spa is on the floor below and includes treatment rooms, sauna, Jacuzzi, and hammam. 

The serene views of the 28 deluxe guest rooms are of the Jura Mountains and the village of Crozet. Each of the rooms is bathed in light, which may be adjusted through translucent glass windows.  A subdued beige and brown color scheme complements the wood and slate used throughout. He was recently the chef at the celebrated Chateau de Coudree on Lake Geneva.  In just a few short months, Shamwari restaurant has become a popular dining place, not only for hotel guests, but for residents of the area who appreciate fine dining in elegant surroundings. San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino Receives Quality Award from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) held their third annual Quality Awards to honor the best in travel and tourism in the region. The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino was a recipient of the “Maintenance Consistency Award” in the four-star hotel category. The award is given to hotels that maintain excellent hotel conditions for the last two years. Malaysia Receives its First Millennium Hotel

Home Grown:

Small Luxury Hotels of the World was not only named the top ranked luxury hotel overall, but is also the hotel brand deemed most worthy of a price premium and the luxury hotel brand wealthy consumers are most willing to recommend to other people they care about. The findings were consistent and unanimous across all age categories (under 45, 45-54, 55+) and split evenly between men and women, however, SLH scored the highest by respondents with a net worth of between $1 million to $5 million.

In tune with the hotel’s eponymous decade-old sibling located at One Central Park West in New York City, the Chicago hotel will feature top-of-the-line appointments, unrivaled service and the very special personal attention provided by the Trump Attaché. Kate Somerville signature treatments will also highlight the guest experience.
