Corinthia Hotels Announces the Re-Launch of its Luxury Hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia
Corinthia Hotels announced the re-launch of its refurbished and extended 400-bedroom luxury hotel on Nevskij Prospect in St Petersburg, Russia, having more bedrooms and more facilities under one roof than any other luxury hotel in the City.
Her Excellency the Governor of St Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, officially inaugurated the new hotel at a grand opening ceremony on Monday May, 25. His Excellency Professor Guido de Marco, President Emeritus of Malta, Mr Alfred Pisani, Founder and Chairman of Corinthia Hotels and Mr Vadim Tulpanov, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg, also presided over the grand ceremony, at which several dignitaries from Russia and overseas attended.
The Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel was acquired as an operating hotel in 2002 by International Hotel Investments (IHI) plc, a Malta-based hotel investment, development and management company, which owns and manages Corinthia Hotels worldwide. At the time, IHI also acquired the vacant grand properties on either side of the Hotel on the city’s main boulevard. Over the past two years, IHI has invested a further Euro 100 million (approx $140 million), including the total refurbishment of the original Hotel, complete with a brand new and larger, grand foyer and a new restaurant and new bars. The adjoining buildings on either side of the hotel, which had been acquired in a state of serious disrepair, were demolished and carefully reconstructed with ornate facades matching their original splendour and rebuilt using traditional techniques.
One of the adjoining properties at Nevskij 59 now houses the executive wing of the Corinthia Hotel, featuring 107 executive suites and bedrooms along with a 250-square-metre Presidential Suite and an executive lounge, bringing the hotel’s total inventory to almost 400 rooms. The centrepiece of this extension is the Grand Ballroom, seating close to 600 persons, which is the largest meeting space of its kind in any five-star hotel in the city of St Petersburg. The ballroom is further supported by a suite of 14 executive meeting rooms. Over 1,200 guests can be accommodated at any one time in the conference facilities. The other adjoining property, at Nevskij 55 now houses a stand-alone retail mall and commercial center, which will be officially inaugurated later this year.
In her address to the guests attending the Grand Opening, Governor Matvienko welcomed this major investment into St Petersburg as a further sign of confidence in the continued growth and prosperity of the city of St Petersburg. President Emeritus de Marco welcomed this project as a sign of the strong and excellent relations existing between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Malta.
Mr Pisani, in his address, told the gathering that Corinthia Hotels is committed to the long-term future of the city of St Petersburg, and is proud to have played an important part in providing the necessary hotel infrastructure, at the luxury level, to attract increasing numbers of visitors to the city. In particular, the international meetings and conference market will benefit from the availability of the extensive facilities now available at the Corinthia Hotel.

CHI Hotels & Resorts to Operate Twin Property 'Corinthia Beach Resort' in Sharmel Sheikh Egypt
Malta based CHI Hotels & Resorts (formerly Corinthia Hotels International) announced the signing of a long term management agreement with Cyrene Tourism Investment Corporation of Egypt for the operation of two new upscale properties in the highly popular Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh. Both hotels will form part of a major resort destination to be known as the Corinthia Beach Resort.
The Corinthia Hotel will be a five-Star international deluxe property located directly on a stunning beach front in Montazah, Sharm El Sheikh. The property is set to become operational in the last quarter of 2009 and will offer 220 deluxe suites and be fully supported with independent restaurants, a club house and fully serviced beach operation and outdoor pool.

Hilton Hotels Corporation Reveals Its New Development In Australasia: The Hilton Rarotonga Resort & Spa
A subsidiary of Hilton Hotels Corporation has signed an agreement with Rarotonga International Limited (which is affiliated to New Zealand-based property developer, McEwan Group) to manage the Hilton Rarotonga Resort and Spa. The resort will be the first international, deluxe hotel offering on the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.
Opened in 2009, this development reflects the Company’s strategy to grow its presence through its flagship Hilton brand in Australasia. Comprising 160 guest rooms and 34 serviced apartments the Hilton Rarotonga Resort and Spa will be located in the south of the island, along an immaculate white sand beach and near to a lagoon popular among tourists for boating and snorkelling. Hilton Announces Plans for European Development Deal -- 25 New Properties Expected Across Russia, Central and Eastern Europe
Hilton Hotels Corporation (NYSE:HLT) announced that the company and Belgravia Asset Management Limited (Belgravia) have agreed upon the terms that Hilton will offer Belgravia for a Strategic Development Agreement (SDA) which, when signed, will provide the opportunity for Belgravia to introduce 25 new hotels (comprising 3,000 rooms) across Russia -- one of the company's key strategic development markets -- as well as other Central and Eastern European markets.
Over the next five years, Hilton and Belgravia expect to introduce both Hampton by Hilton(TM) and Hilton Garden Inn(TM) hotels across Russia, Central and Eastern European markets, all of which Hilton expects to manage. The first property is expected to be a Hampton by Hilton hotel in St Petersburg, which is expected to open during the second quarter of 2008
This will be the second major Russian hotel development announcement with a leading property partner this year, as the company concentrates on multi-unit deals in key emerging markets. In June this year Hilton announced a SDA with London & Regional Properties Limited to develop 25 new hotels, encompassing selected brands within the Hilton Family of Hotels, including Conrad(R), Hilton(R), Doubletree by Hilton(TM), Hilton Garden Inn(TM) and Hampton by Hilton(TM) hotels.
Over the next ten years, Hilton plans to open 70 Hilton Family hotels across Russia, not only focussing on Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also actively looking at opportunities in key regional cities.
Separate from the anticipated SDA with Belgravia, Hilton's first hotel in Russia will be the 275-room Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya, which is scheduled to open early next year.
"With the limited number of internationally branded properties in Russia, this anticipated alliance with Belgravia Financial Services Group will help us accelerate our growth plans and make a significant impact on the Russian hotel market in a relatively short space of time, said Ian Carter, Chief Executive of Hilton's International Operations. Over the next five years, Hilton expects to offer travellers to Russia a choice of accommodation ranging from its well known hotel brand Hilton, which will be joined by Doubletree by Hilton in catering to demands for upscale accommodation. Today's announcement means that in the near future, Hilton expects travellers to soon be able to stay in Hilton Garden Inn properties, the company's ever-popular mid-market brand, as well as Hampton by Hilton, which is targeted at budget conscious travellers.
While initial projects will be in Russia, Hilton would also like to introduce its Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton product in other Eastern and Central European countries where Belgravia currently has a significant number of projects underway

Hyatt Regency Denver Implements Innovative Environmental Sustainability Efforts with Help from Staff and Guests -- Seeking to Become Colorado’s First Hotel with Green Seal Certification
Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center has started to implement a comprehensive sustainability program designed to minimize the hotel’s overall carbon footprint and decrease its environmental impact. Global Hyatt Corporation is committed to environmental responsibility, and Hyatt Regency Denver (Hyatt) strives to lead the way with sustainable environmental initiatives that will have a long-lasting impact on the community.
“Sparked by the passion of our staff and our customers, and Hyatt’s desire to be a part of the solution, we felt compelled to develop and implement long-term sustainability programs that would have lasting, positive results,” commented John Schafer, general manager of Hyatt Regency Denver. “Living in Colorado and waking up to one of the most magnificent views every day is a constant reminder of our connection to the natural world. Water Conservation
Designed with guestroom low flow pluming fixtures including toilets (1.4 gallon tanks), faucets (rated 1.5 gallons per minute), and showerheads (rated 2.5 gallons per minute);
Converted automatic hand sinks and urinals in public restrooms to low flow units;
Implemented a climate-appropriate landscape design with a water efficient irrigation system; Established policy that housekeeping only changes bed linens at the request of the customer and when rooms are newly occupied;
and serve water by request only in banquets.
In 2007, the hotel had an annual consumption of 45 million gallons of water, and without these implemented features, would likely have seen an increase of 10 percent of the annual water consumption.
Reducing the Carbon Footprint
Installed a hydronic plate cooling system that utilizes outside air to cool the hotel when temperature variations allow;
Converted 95 percent of the hotel’s light bulbs to energy saving fluorescent bulbs;
Reclamation of heat from laundry waste water to preheat incoming cold water; and
Whenever possible, chefs use locally grown produce.
Based on the use of compact florescent as opposed to incandescent light bulbs in the 1,100 guestrooms, the hotel has realized a savings of 1,171,207.62 Kwh per year, which reflects a 6.5% savings in annual consumption.
Reducing Landfill Waste and Recycling
Placed newspaper racks on each guest floor as opposed to individual room delivery;
First hotel in Denver to use a Waste Management single stream recycling compactor;
Placed recycling bins in all guest rooms (1,100), and placed tandem trash/recycling bins with informational signage in all public areas;
Implemented a recycling program and tandem trash/recycling bins for staff and restaurant; and
Converted “to-go” containers to biodegradable containers.
As a result, Hyatt has reduced an estimated 25 percent of its landfill waste, and continues to monitor its business practices for avenues for additional waste reduction methods.
Staff Education
Additionally, Hyatt has invested resources into creating a culture of environmental awareness and education of its staff by creating an active Green Committee of employees from various operations and executive departments. The committee of individuals serve as environmental ambassadors providing leadership, driving change, and increasing awareness on multiple environmental issues within the workplace and beyond. Not only does the Hyatt Green Committee develop and implement change initiatives at work, but each member looks for ways to educate fellow associates. For example, in celebration of Earth Week 2008, the committee provided fluorescent light bulbs and environmental educational information to employees for their use at home. Hyatt has also hosted internal meetings specifically to educate staff on the hotel’s sustainability efforts; brought in industry experts, such as Waste Management, for internal trainings; and provided environmental, educational and technical materials in several languages such as Spanish and Russian.
Hyatt has already seen positive results from all of its initiatives, and plans to apply for a “Green Seal Certification” by the end of 2008. Green Seal is a national non-profit that has developed “science-based environmental certification standards that are credible, transparent, and essential in an increasingly educated and competitive marketplace.” If successful, Hyatt is on track to becoming the first Green Seal certified hotel in Colorado.

Grand Hyatt Denver Launches $3.9 Million Suite Renovation
The general manager of the award-winning Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown, Ed Bucholtz, announced a $3.9 million renovation of the hotel's premier suites plus the Grand Club. The timeless, classic residential feel carries into the bath that features television sets embedded in the mirrors, vessel sinks set atop a cantilevered vanity and ceramic tile walls surrounding a free-standing bath tub. Glass graces the upper portion of the walls that separate this space from the sleeping area. These suites embrace the great room concept that is so prevalent in home design today and, in keeping with the latest trend, are void of a formal dining area. With all singularly appointed, a custom color palette has been created for each. Accents of fresh, natural greens and blues to striking oranges and golds play off of deep brown and tan walnut case pieces and genuine leather furnishings. The large, built-in LCD television set is easily viewed from anywhere in the room incorporating elements reminiscent of home that are not generally found in hotel accommodations. Certainly, today's societal concern for the environment is carefully considered. To answer that, the Grand Hyatt Denver design team insured that each accommodation is fully equipped with the most up-to-date and technically savvy energy saving devices from individual, digitally controlled thermostats to fixtures that conserve water to florescent light bulbs. Structurally, these suites are completely re-engineered with this goal in mind, achieving it with reconfigured walls and ceilings that capture and contain air to maintain rooms at a proper temperature with minimal energy consumption. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts has announced its new digital download music pilot program, in partnership with leading digital music agency Audiosuite, at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch and Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa located between Austin and Bastrop, Texas.
Individual properties will offer unique, destination-specific music collections, making Hyatt’s program truly a first in the industry. Each property’s signature collections will be available online for users to download in a universally compatible MP3 format the most widely utilized digital music format so guests can bring their Hyatt experience home.
Hyatt plans to roll out the new digital download program to its properties across North America and the Caribbean throughout 2007. Inspired by the emerging lifestyle of today’s multi-tasking business traveler who works more hours on the road than at home, Hyatt is a launching a new brand, Hyatt Place. It's the first hotel concept designed around a whole new mindset of consumers who are seeking the comforts of home. Hyatt uncovered results that only 10 percent of travelers were able to find a hotel that gives them what they want most: a place to stay like home.
Hyatt Place was based in part on the findings of extensive consumer research conducted by Sterling Brands uncovering the demands of a new breed of sophisticated travelers who intermingle their professional and personal lives. The study, commissioned by Hyatt, shows that more than 90 percent of traveling respondents surveyed said their work time overlaps with their personal time, leading to a blended lifestyle trend. However, only 10 percent of traveling respondents were able to find a hotel that gives them what they want.
This lifestyle trend of a projected 7.4 million Americans inspired Hyatt Place to create an environment to foster guests’ productivity, relaxation and fulfillment with an emphasis on stylish design, innovative services and comfortable amenities that people find in their everyday lives.
Additional findings from the study include:
• When working at home, 71 percent also watch TV, 53 percent listen to music and 59 percent surf the Internet
• 62 percent of all respondents enjoy time to themselves when they travel for business

Guests staying at select Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in North America can check their luggage and receive airline issued boarding passes before leaving the property for the airport. The cost of the service is $10 per person and includes storage, transportation and check-in of up to two pieces of luggage. The service is made available through Hyatt’s partnership with Baggage Airline Guest Services (B.A.G.S.), and is supervised by the Transportation Security Administration. Depending. Depending on location, guests can check their luggage at the hotel up to two hours prior to flight time or as long as 24 hours before departure. Once check-in is complete at a Hyatt property, guests can head to meetings or the airport free of luggage, picking it up at baggage claim in their final destination. Hyatt’s B.A.G.S. service processes the luggage through airport security screening.The service is available with travel on Airtran, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Song, Ted, and United Airlines.

IHG Building Hotel Indigo in Pittsburgh
IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) [LON: IHG, NYSE: IHG (ADRs)], the world’s largest hotel group by number of rooms, announced plans to build a new 135-room Hotel Indigo in the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh. Construction is anticipated to begin in second quarter 2008, with an expected opening date of fourth quarter 2009.

A large, joyful water color of stylized flowers is immediately in full view upon entering the lobby. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced an agreement to brand and manage 26 luxurious residences that will be developed on a site adjacent to the planned Mandarin Oriental, Taipei in the heart of the city’s central financial and business district. This is the Group’s first residential project in Asia, bringing the total number of branded Residences at Mandarin Oriental around the world to 13.
With a planned opening in 2010, the project is designed to become the most exclusive private apartments in Taiwan. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced that it will manage a new hotel in the heart of Milan which will open in 2010. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) held their third annual Quality Awards to honor the best in travel and tourism in the region. The Premier is the first New York City hotel to introduce allergen-friendly rooms utilizing an innovative, one-of-a-kind high-tech cleansing and maintenance process developed by Pure Solutions, North America. Premier Pure rooms are available on three floors of The Premier (16 guest rooms), the Penthouse and Fitness Center. This is the first Fitness Center in the New York and the world that has received this utterly new process. Home Grown:
Octogone Hotels serve guests with their very own home-grown produce. Even herbs and flowers are specifically grown for use in the hotel. Upon departure, each guest is presented with a bottle of organic, first-pressed olive oil (0.3% acidity), which comes from the hotel's own Farm Estate that cultivates more than 1,000 olive trees.

· Reserving existing vegetation, including opting for desert plants that require minimum watering.

According to the recently released 2007 Luxury Brand Status Index survey
on luxury hotels and resorts conducted by The Luxury Institute, wealthy
consumers in the U.S. have ranked Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH)
the top overall luxury hotel brand for 2007 beating out more traditional brands
such as Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton.

The results of The Brand Status Index come at a time when Small Luxury Hotels of the World has undergone a re-branding focusing on Experiential Marketing which highlights the unique and memorable experiences that over 400 branded SLH hotels offer around the world. These efforts are perfectly consistent with the respondent's feedback in the survey. When asked why they would recommend the brand to people they care about, consumers answered with phrases such as "unique properties," "personalized service," "something different," and "good experiences;" all things that accurately describe the brand of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World was not only named the top ranked luxury hotel overall, but is also the hotel brand deemed most worthy of a price premium and the luxury hotel brand wealthy consumers are most willing to recommend to other people they care about. The findings were consistent and unanimous across all age categories (under 45, 45-54, 55+) and split evenly between men and women, however, SLH scored the highest by respondents with a net worth of between $1 million to $5 million.

The proprietary Luxury Brand Status IndexÔ is the only measure available of the value and equity of leading luxury brands to wealthy Americans, based on statistically meaningful data collected from wealthy consumers themselves. The survey index incorporates four main "pillars" of brand stature: Consistently Superior Quality, Unique and Exclusive brand, Social Status (a brand used by people who are admired and respected) and Self Enhancement ( the brand makes the customer "feel special" across all aspects of the customer experience)
The survey also measures three key "outcome" metrics, which are compared to the LBSI: Worthiness of a significant price premium, Willingness to recommend the brand to people they care about and the brand most likely to be considered the next time a purchase is made. Finally, qualitative responses are collected by brand to understand why consumers are or are not willing to recommend specific brands, and the reasons behind their preference for the brand they would most likely consider on their next purchase.
